I have been Dollyized

I had the great pleasure of going to see Dolly Parton last night in concert. It was my first time seeing her and my first impression of  her was the total opposite of who she is.  I thought she was dainty and not as outgoing and nice as she is. Well that could be farther from the truth. She made her entrance on the stage with a big smile big hair bright sequenced gown and her bigger then life personality.

According to the old man I met in the elevator Dolly sang thirty nine songs that night. Also she was engaging with the audience and talking to us like we where sitting in her living room. I counted at least six different instruments that she played throughout the night. I would compare her to a variety act. During the concert before each song she would tell us what is going on in her life. Dolly opened up a window and let us see a part of her heart. In addition she brought her sense of humor and witty jokes to the table.

That night I could feel her beautiful spirit pouring out from her songs her heart and her joking nature. There is something so genuine and real about her. One does not see that all the time and she was giving us her all. Dolly showed us she was human by saying she still has worries and concerns in her life. She was real with us and let us see a part of her.

My favorite song  by Dolly Parton is  Nine to Five because I relate to it on a deeper level. She is telling alot of peoples stories.  I know I have woken up and gone into a a dead-end job that I am not happy at and dream all day about the job I wish I had.  In the song she captures the feeling of impending doom as one gets ready to go into a job they despise. She relays that there  has to be more to life then settling for what a person thinks they deserve.

Instead Dolly does not have a nine to five job. She has fought tooth and nail to get where she is in life. She grew up poor learned how to work hard and fend for herself.  She could have easily stuck with the norm but instead she defied the odds. In Dollys own words that night I had been Dollyized.  I wanted what she had. A thirst  for life.
